Me and ingrid climbed up the side of a ravine to see m
It was fucking great
Ill just start from the beginning tho i guess

Yea it was a loooooong fucking sail in
Five boats
Braute (the one i was on) Nidaros (the one Ingrid was on) Skårungen (the hardest one to spell) Fri (the biggest one) and Munin

These boats are fuckn cool yo
Super simple
Basically-
Okay so their square sails, with the option of a topsail
The way you sail one IDEALLY is to have the wind right at your back (well thats the way it is with like all sailboats but yea) but if the wind changes direction you just gotta manually re-anchor the sail at the front and back.
So like
The wind is coming from starboard, crossing to port
Youd anchor the front corner of the sail (your right side) to the starboard front side of the boat, and the back corner to the port back.
And forgive me for not knowing more than port and starboard for sailing terms, im just supposed to make the damn things lol
In the event of a tack, you just time the switching of the sail corners- which of course you do manually.
So you need to turn?
Rudder to the direction your turning (with the above scenario, pretend your turning to starboard)
Theres a point where your facing the wind in this turn, and thats the point where you decouple the two sail corners from their respectove attach points.
If your at the back, you unloop the rope from the peg and throw ALL THE SLACK into the ocean over board.
This is because the sail needs the space coz in order to turn the sail

Anyway
If your at the front, you decouple THAT corner, and sync with the guy in the back who is now pulling all the slack from the OTHER side of the sail to the back, just to reorient it GENERALLY.
then at the front, you tighten the sail down as much as you need (depending on wind direction) and you say FAST
it means youve FASTened the sail down
Then the guy in the back tightens HIS corner down as much as needed, and you got the sail oppositely oriented.

Needs maybe a minimum of five people to sail one as big as Braute, if you know what your doing (which i dont lol)
Maybe a minimum of seven or eight to do Fri but i havent been on Fri so i dont actually know
But whats funny is that the only reason youd need more people is just coz the forces involved, Fris not ACTUALLY any more complicated, its just bigger so youd need more people to like
Maybe row the oars and hoist the sail
But as far as the sail into the island, it wasnt that exciting
We had some wind early on but it was raining
Not much but it was enough to be lame
And then when the sun came out the wind died so we had to get towed by Nidaros (Nidaros has a motor) for like 3 hours (the whole sail was at least 8 hours BTW)
We did end up doing this cool thing where we connected three boats together- Braute, Nidaros and Munin- all side by side so we made like
A viking trimaran and used Nidaros' and Munin's motors to carry Braute
The reason it was cool is we could walk between boats, so i could go and chill with Ingrid
It was really dope
But then Marius, the captain of my ship was like "eh, mkay lets sail now" and i would been okay with it if the wind had picked up buuuuuuuuuuut it was just as dead as when we started so like
We broke off the flotilla and like
Sat around for 45 minutes until the smallest amount of wind came and saved us
We were okay tho- i was just mad coz i thought the flotilla was really cool and i just wanted to be on the island at that point
But yea we got on lamd at like 8:30, it was getting dark
My boat was last to arrive
We had a meeting or whatever it was all in norsk
The fun part was AFTER the meeting, thats when we saw the northern lights i was talking about earlier
I think after that we went to sleep

First we went to the fire with some other people and kenneth was playing fire songs all relaxedly and nice in norwegian and then Ingrid fell asleep n it was fun
I think we went to bed after that
I dont really rememeber
But yea the next day was sheep herding day
So i listened to some more norwegian, and i watched SOMETHING that looked like a demonstration on how NOT to get killed by a charging sheep, but i didnt know what was going on coz
Well it was still norwegian
So i was sorta scared i was gonna get rammed by a ram but i joined the sheep herding crew anyway
It was pretty cool actually
We employed this hammer and anvil tactic
So i was on the hammer crew, but it was like this big sweeping move, so i was like
The HANDLE of the hammer with Trygg Maja and Halvar, and the sheep were way up at the hammer HEAD, so down by us it was kinna boring coz there werent any sheep and we stood for a buncha time
But we talked
It was like two hours
We talked about minnesotans, and we talked about Fargo, n we talked (well mostly I talked) about jow good it is to be scared of stuff, and how fun it is to admire someone who can scare you really damn good
N then we talked about wars
And war tactics
And then Trygg talked about the one time he was in a civil war reenactment in Virginia
N then we talked about more wars
N weapons
N stuffssssss
N then before we knew it we were chasing some sheep and it was super cool coz we had to chase them forward, but we NEEDED them to go to the RIGHT, and the ocean was on the LEFT.
The RIGHT was this ravine right down the middle of this island.
So the sheep of course WANTED to go STRAIGHT, coz they dont like ravines and they cant swim and they dont wanna turn around coz us chasers-
Except this is where the ANVIL came in-
It was sick were all chasing them down real fast, their running and were running, and then KENNETH yells some brisk Norwegian command and the other half of the school stood up in the bushes BLOCKING the STRAIGHT path.
So of course now all they could do was go RIGHT, up the Ravine where we wanted em.
It was cool.
But yea the waiting was pretty nice actually
I could look across the ravine to the other side and saw a buncha bored anvillers climbing up the peak of the island n stuff, waved to some people.
I saw Ingrid climb up actually

It was fun
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Uh what happened after thaaaaahhhhht uhm
Yea after we herded the sheep into that teeny pen (its the pic on my instragrame) we-
Well i didnt really
We orgamized them into food and wool piles
So the ones that were gonna stay got this anti-parasite medicine coz they have liver parasites (ill come back to this wehn i talk about the slaughter)
Yea so the organization involved weighing them and then Ingvar aorting them into slaughter and not slaughter.
The non slaighter ones got put in another pen to the side and then the ones we WERE gonna slaughter got their front hooves and back hooves tied together and we carried them onto Fri across our shoulders
Its a two person job tho coz obviously they aint tryinna get carried around so they flail and shit, and they got them horns and their head is in the perfect position to swing to the side and stabe you STRAIGHT in the eye with their horns, so one persom carries while another walks on the left side holding the outside horn in place.
But yeaaaaa while everybody did the work, me and Ingrid hiked up to the top of the Island's mountain for the fun of it lol
Then on the way down, Arne was coming up and was like
"Hey guys, you seen a lamb run up here?"
N we were like
"????????"
N he was like
"Yea onevm got away from Idunn- it ran up this way i guess"
N so we spent a little time peepn around form, n then we heard the horn so we went down to the camp n Ingvar was like
"Yea, onna the sheeps got away, we hafta do a search party-
Hes on the mountain side of the island somewhere"
So we all broke up.into groups
I was woth Ingrid and Trygg
We went along this weird little mini penninsula and somehow i got a hole in my bramd new rainboot
But yea we looked around and then we saw this group up the mountain staying put and then this rowboat came around the side and sure enough they cornered the lamb and they pitm on the rowboat and pulled back around
So after that me Trygg and Ingrid sat on the nearby rock beach and skipped rocks and shit
N then Maja Nanna an Lukas came by too and then i taught Lukas how to skip rocks

Im not remembering what else happened that day so we probly just ate some food and went to sleep
Sheep herding takes a long time lol
Annnnnd the next day was wednesday
And that was the slaughter day
Never seen an animal that big die before, but i was alright
But beforw that we ate breakdats and moved the camp coz there was sposedta be a lotta wind all coming from the opposite direction itd been coming from before, so we took the tarps and cooking supplies up the field closer to me n Ingrids tent
N then Marius was like
"Hey Gabe ywanna help me carry these planks back down the ravine to where the sheep were?"
N i was like
"Mkay"
And when we got there he was like
"We hafta take a sheep back"
N i was like
ooooooooooooooooojeez here we go
But after all the mental preparation i was good
So we brought one back and then somebody else brought the other
And the baa like crazy coz they know whats coming
Well i donno
Its pretty sad, but you just gotta detach
But yea
You take the blunt side of an axe and hit them on the forehead from behind and then you cut the vein (probably jugular or sommn) and they bleed to death
So Kenneth and Ingvar did the killing, Kenneth hit with the axe and Ingvar bled them
Your supposed to collect the blood coz you can eat it
The first one was bad, it took like three hits to getm down, it was hard
But the other one was out fast, one hit and he was out
So yea after theyed both bled, Kenneth and Ingvar started to butcher the first one and he was like
Still kickin and stuff
Hhhhhhh that was probly the hardest part
He had to take more axe hits, and they broke his neck and stufffffffffffffff
Some kids had to leave coz it was difficult to watch
But eventally he was at peace and we could just watch the butchering
Which is actually the easy part to watch
They start with the skinning, and then they move in to the organs
Its actually kind of interesting
I dont remember the whole proccess coz its complicated and long but basically you organize the pieces into parts you can eat and parts you cant
And thwn i was talkn about liver parasited earlier-
They get to the liver and they make a long cut in it and submerge it in water and you can see all the little parasites
Its kinna grosssss but theyre not like
Writhing worms or anything they kinna just look like black flecks
So yea that was the actual slaughter
After that they set it up on a spit and enynody wjo wanted to try was allowed to begin butchering the other one with guidance
So yea once the lamb was on the spit it would be 6 hours before we could eat it
So i guess we had the rest of the day off- i donno that was actually the case but i was chilln hard
Ingridd vanished for like 2 hours, n then it turned out she took a bath
In the frozen ass september atlantic
In NORWAY
coz she cray lol
But then we chilled for like 4 hours in her tent after that
It was good
But yea so we didnt get to taste the blood pamcakes or the intestines coz of it
Coz we were
Sleeping
But yea then dinner was lamb and it was pretty dope
We also had fish and potatoes
We have potatoes every day here lol coz we got so many at Nøst
Nnnnnnnnnnnnd after that we decide to do some island exploring and me and ingrid went over to the side of the island we hadnt really been on and stopped at yeat another rocky alcove (theres like twelve ofm) and sat for like 45 minutes inthe cold wind
It was great
Ingrids sorta like finn in the way she denies that shes cold

I stole dads trick of freezing people, where you deliberatley get your hands wasaaaaayyy too cold n then your like

I think we just did some tasks that needed to be did
I pulled up Juniper and cut shit and got wet and cold n it was fun
I chooped wood out of a tree while i was in the tree
It was dangerous and fun
I almost fell like six times
N Ingrid vanished again
it was cool tho turns out she found a really chill spot like
On the side of a cliff near the water
We sat and ate candy
I had a buncha the chocolate that magnis and frederic dumped on me so we ate somma that n ingrid got a bag of assorted sweets in the mail
I WOULDA brought caramel but this was before my care oackage came- i wouldnta been at school to get it anyway
But yea we huked around a lot that day
We went out to the penninsula, climbed some more perilous precipices, ran into some other curious climbers (siri and julie)
Mmm
O ingrid took another bath coz
Like i said shes crazy
N then we hung out on yet another cliff and saw a buncha mackerel schools it was actually quite beautiful
And we found the sheep by accident they were side eyeing us real hard
N then we went back to camp where they had lamb bone broth waiting
It was nice
N there was a student v faculty football game (soccer coz yalla americans)
Yea that was about the point where the Kenneth jokes got out of control
We had been doing this thing during the week (mostly me Ingrid Trygg and Magnus) where wed like
Make a joke about how unbeleivably badass Kenneth was
Amd its actually pretty fuckn funny
He was like
Wrestling students and like
Owning every singe one
And he was using the lamb spit as a lance omg

The joke was that the faculty would win because itd be inpossible to beat Kenneth in anything

But yea then we went to bed i think
After some campfire songs
N then friday we left
It wasnt really a remarkable day, there was packing and stuff
It was drizzling a little
In the morning anyway
Yea so we sailed and made more jokes about how if the wind died Kenneth would just jump into the water and push Fri (the biggest boat) along just by swimming behind it
The sailing was pretty good actually

We had some pretty good speed, it was a back wind like the whole way
Ingrid says she steered her boat the whole way so thats pretty cool

N then Nidaros needed some coffee so they came close enough to high five it was cool i high fived Ådne
Then when we made the turn into the fjord we picked up a whole assloada wind and our boat was like almost tipping
It was actually really fuckn scary in a good way
N then the wind got normal again and we saw some eagles
N then the wind died and we wasted time by playing "odds are" and climbing the rigging
O we cooked some food too, the boats have little propane stoves onm its actually really cool
But yea since the wind died we hadda get towed by Nidaros the resta the way
It was fun-
When the boats are close like that you can do all kindsa fun junk like yelll across the boats, throw stuff, high five
Its fun
They dropped us off like a hundred feet from the port and we rowed in
N then we hadda clean the boat and i hadda operate the on board manual viking pump
Its really fucking hard
Kinna reminds me of choppin the ice whole at OB-
The action itself is really similar to churning butter and then you have this ramp that puts the water overboard
And then what

We ate dinner and probly just crashed
O no i showered and dinner was onion soup n it was good
But then it was the weekend and we had DnD
And Ingrid went to trondheim but before that we ate lunch at the bar were lars apparently got wasted
Coz its actually a pizzeria
So we had good pizza and some beer

N then Ingrid left and i think we had more DnD but i dont remember

So when we went to watch it on frederics ps4 we just ended up watching him best last of us for what he claimed to be his fifth or sixth time or whatever
And then the next dayyyyyyyyyy (yesterday)
Me and Ingrid went into town and bought stuff at the sto-
The most fun thing was the beautiful and lovely jo anne

The first thing i did was put her in Christoffers bed, underneath all the covers so he couldnt see her
And then i went back later at like 10 and she was gone
It was holarious
He told me he got super scared lol
He said he put her in the smokers corner
And then lois carried her to the break room
Where i took her and put her on the toilet till theis morning
And then i moved her to the drying room
I donno if anybody saw her in there tho, shes hung up in the shower now
